I will take many different images in your newborn photoshoot. I aim to give you a great variety of images so you can create something spectacular in your home or create a book or album to enjoy. you can choose the colours you would like for your photos, props (which include buckets, bowls and other special items) and accessories (like headbands, bonnets, outfits etc) for your baby to have in their images.

Heirloom blankets and other items are always welcome in your newborn photoshoot. What better way to capture these special items for your baby than with your baby! Sometimes this could be a childhood toy, a special family tartan etc. We are capturing your special images and I want to capture them for you.

Zoe’s Magical 1st Year Cake Smash Photoshoot

Zoe’s mum requested for the photoshoot to be designed around a magical unicorn theme. Zoe’s eldest sister is crazy about unicorns. When you have older children, it is so important to try and create an idea that will be enjoyed by everybody. Zara was so excited when she walked into the studio when she saw my magical unicorn land created especially for them.

1st Year Cake Smash Photoshoots are a great opportunity to have a family photograph captured of everybody together. Zoe’s dad was quite happy to be covered in magical unicorn clouds. Zoe’s mum took the time to co-ordinate clothing options and I think did a fabulous job. It really pays off when you have a family photograph like this to keep. 

Planning an Allergy-Free Cake Smash Photoshoot

Who said you cannot book a cake smash photoshoot

because your baby has severe allergies?

It may take only a small amount of allergen to cause a dangereous reaction. Baby Safety is always a top priority for any situation. It is best to know as much as possible about your little client so your photography shoot is a happy experience and most of all safe.

Chat with the parents to find out about what food allergies their child may have. It is not being nosy, it is being considerate of their child’s well-being. Parents will always appreciate you taking care of their child’s safety.

Most children’s cake and party food are nut-free but there are many other food items that can have a very negative affect like wheat, milk, eggs, tree nuts, soybeans, some fruit and the list can go on.

Whatever you choose to decorate your cake, read the ingredients.

Eric Sitter Photoshoot

Time really does fly in the 1st year. A couple of months ago, I captured this precious boy in his older newborn photoshoot at 7 weeks. He is now 7 months! A sitter photoshoot is such a wonderful shoot.

Hannah’s Newborn Family Photoshoot

We had a fantastic newborn family shoot with Hannah all brand new at 7 days NEW with her dad, mum and big sister. The whole shoot was based around images together as a family, sibling images and then we went on to capture Hannah in some sweet newborn poses. Hannah was cluster feeding during this shoot so I used a dummy to help soothe her here and there to bebale to complete a great set of beautiful images.

Cluster Feeding is neccesary for breastfed newborn babies to increase the flow of milk. They don’t sleep very deeply and I find are incredibly hard to settle. Deep sleep is the last thing on their minds. Together with keeping the studio at a warm temperature of 27 degrees and using knitted rompers, I managed to capture some adorable images of Hannah.

Family and sibling images are always encouraged and included in the newborn photoshoot. A newborn photoshoot is a celebration of your new baby that has joined the family. This is a very exciting time for everybody.

Sibling images are better to be taken when you new baby is very young as they tend to sleep a lot deeper and do not move around too much. The crying and moving around and unsettle an older sibling as they don’t know how to manage this. An unsettled newborn baby having sibling photos captured is also a safety risk for your newborn. Once 10 days to two weeks has past, the novelty of a new baby sister or brother would start wearing off and there is usually less patience from an older sibling. Therefore, if you are hoping for beautiful sibling images to be captured, it is very helpful to book your new baby in earlier than later after birth.

Edinburgh can be a lottery with the weather. However, if it is a non-windy, dry day we may consider a few images in my vegetable garden which is protected and a beautiful place to photograph. I just love the outdoor, daylight images.

Ann’s Sitter Baby Photoshoot

Sitter Baby Photography is a great opportunity to capture your baby at a very unique stage. Why is this stage unique? Generally babies this age are amazed by everything new, silly sounds and are just so happy to be having their photo taken.

To avoid any distress and very important to keep the happiness going, it is really important to not book a sitter baby photoshoot if your sitting baby is not sitting properly. Sitting properly meaning not crashing back every so often. These sessions can be quite tiring and as your baby tires they do not have the energy or strength to keep their balance. Another sign of a sitting baby but not quite there yet is a baby that sits but is using their arms to keep their balance. It is impossible to achieve any interaction with toys etc with them feeling like they don’t feel safe. Your baby will come to a stage where they can sit and play with toys in their hands and not have to rely on their hands for balance.

A sitter baby photoshoot is usually around 45 minutes with dress changes. I tend to not spend too much time in one set so we can achieve variety in your photos. Babies in the sitting stage can sit, lie on their tummy’s and may want to lie on their backs holding their toes in theirs hands. Family images are lovely at this stage as babies are really quite easy to please and smiles and intrigue are abundant.
